Photographer Tom Reynen and printmaker Dale Vanden Houten explore patterns in nature and landscape from near and far.
Tom Reynen is a photographer and one of 10 members of the AZ Gallery. In his portion of the exhibition, Tom explores the random patterns in nature that one can see if they take the time to look down. From patterns on the sand made by the tides on the beaches of Portugal to the textures of the gnarled roots of the old apple trees in his yard in Shoreview, Tom's photographs of "near" scenes from above are a unique counterpoint to Dale's prints from "far" above.
Dale Vanden Houten is a printmaker who currently lives in Minneapolis. For his portion of the exhibit Dale explores the geometric patterns of the earth as one might see when looking down from a plane. Using Google Earth to capture images from around the world, Dale's images of "far" scenes reveal the intricate patterns that our earth holds, whether wrought from the hand of man, or the earth’s constant geological progression. Dale presents these abstracted earth images as hand printed etchings on paper.
