Artist Statement
My recent work is made from birch plywood & tinted polyurethane. I study
the shapes made by the wood grain and apply multiple levels of color, using negative
space to create an abstract pattern.
These paintings are a statement of what is important to me…NATURE. Ever since
I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by and drawn to trees. This work explores
the inner life; the history the wood grain reflects. I enjoy using those natural
patterns to draw out the story each piece of wood holds.
“YOU SEE, THE BIRCH, WHICH GROWS ABOUT AS OLD AS A HUMAN BEING, IS REALLY THE
MOST MAGICAL AND BEAUTIFUL OF ALL TREES…”
